Foxconn International Holdings' (FIH's) recent cooperation with smartphone vendor BlackBerry is expected to help resume Foxconn's investment plans in Indonesia, which have not been active for a while, according to some market watchers.
Commenting on the speculation, Foxconn pointed out that the company's investments in Indonesia will follow its set schedule, but the company may push aggressively if needed.
BlackBerry recently announced it has signed a 5-year contract with FIH for the maker to manufacture its smartphone products, with emerging markets such as Mexico and Indonesia will be the initial targets of their cooperation.
The market watchers pointed out that BlackBerry will be able to save costs and speed up its products' time to market through Foxconn's production lines in Mexico and Foxconn's investments in Indonesia are also expected to resume for the same purpose.
Foxconn reportedly will manufacture an entry-level smartphone codenamed Jakarta for BlackBerry in the first half of 2014 and the smartphone will be selling mainly in Indonesia.
