Viewing that ARM has made a foray into the entry-level all-in-one (AIO) PC market segment, Intel has offered inexpensive Smart Display platforms equipped with Bay Trail-D processors supporting Android to compete, according to supply chain makers.
Smart displays are PC monitors with built-in Android operating system and can be used as a large-size tablet.
Intel is currently pushing its existing Bay Trail-D series processors including Pentium J2850, Celeron J1850 and Celeron J1750 for the smart display industry and is planning to release Pentium J2950, Celeron J1900 and Celeron J1800 in the first quarter of 2014.
For the US$249-299 market segment, Intel will push 18-inch smart displays featuring a Celeron J1800 processor and 1GB of DDR3 memory; for the US$299-349 segment, 18- to 21-inch models featuring a Pentium J1900 processor; and for the US$349 and above segment, 21-inch and higher models with a Pentium J2900 processor.
Intel is also offering its low-power processors such as Core i5-4350U for smart displays to its partners and will launch the new Core i5-430U in the second quarter of 2014.
For the all-in-one PC market, Intel is mainly pushing 18.5- to 21.5-inch models using the Core i3-4100U processor for the price segment of around US$749. Intel also has several specification suggestions for the US$899 and above segment. |
