Compal Electronics has established RiPAL Optotronics, a subsidiary to manufacture BLUs, to secure supplies of TV-use BLUs.

　　With a registered capital of NT$60 million (US$2.01 million), RiPAL will set up a factory at the Southern Taiwan Science Park.

　　Compal shipped 2.9 million LCD TVs in January-November and expects to ship three million units in 2013, far short of its target of 4-5 million units set in early 2013, according to industry sources.

　　Compal acquired Toshiba's LCD TV assembly factory in Poland in October 2013, and produces Toshiba's LCD TVs for sale in the US, Europe and Japan, and aims to ship 5-6 million LCD TVs in 2014, the sources said.
