Supply chains are seeing increased orders from Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics for components used in smartphones with flexible displays.
The orders are mostly for Samsung's Galaxy Round and LG's LG Flex. Supply chain sources said even though most handset vendors are pushing sales of low-priced units in order to expand their share in the smartphone market, Samsung instead is looking to further increase its presence in the high-end market through value-added products with advanced tecnology features to capture consumers.
The two Korea vendors' orders are expected to bring supply chains increased profit throughout the beginning of 2014. Suppliers saw profts vary in 2013 due to demand for decreased component pricing, most notably from China handset vendors.
Going into 2014 supply chains intend to further develop flexible display components but are still facing technological hurdles, as the components are still susceptible to breaking as a result of being bent too much.
Meanwhile, LG is set to release its first 4G LTE LG G Flex smartphone in the Taiwan market as of January 6, 2014. |
