Compal Electronics expects its tablet shipments to double in 2014 to 14 million units, while shipments of its notebooks will grow only slightly to 40 million units. The company shipped 39 million notebooks and seven million tablets in 2013.
  Compal has announced revenues of NT$64.67 billion (US$2.15 billion) for December 2013, down 1.97% on month, but up 7.15% on year, and it achieved revenues of NT$692.69 billion for 2013, up 1.28% on year.
  Compal shipped 4.5 million notebooks and 900,000 tablets in December, both down slightly from November.
  Because of seasonal factors, the Lunar New Year holidays and labor shortages, Compal expects its shipments in the first quarter of 2014 to drop sequentially, with some market watchers estimating the decline at 10-20%.
  Compal's merger with Compal Communication will complete by March and should boost the mobile device business' share of Compal's revenues from 7% to 30%.
  As for its TV business, Compal's acquisition of Toshiba's LCD TV plants in Poland has earned the Taiwan-based ODM extra orders for 2014 and according to the company's internal estimation, it is set to ship 5-6 million units in the year.
  Compal reportedly has landed orders for Apple's iPad, but Compal declined to comment on its orders.
