Sony CEO Kaz Hirai, in an interview with Nikkei, revealed future plans of the company's mobile division. Sony Mobile hopes to sell 80 million Smartphones in fiscal 2015 (from April 1, 2015 to March 31, 2016). The company hopes to achieve such high figures by achieving deeper market penetration in China and the US. Sony will reportedly put in "money and people" to tap the US and Chinese markets. Taming carriers would do the company a lot of good as they account for the maximum percentage of Smartphone sales in either of these countries.
Also, Sony plans to offer a "broader variety" of Smartphones. We believe Kaz was referring to Windows Phone devices from Sony, which are expected to arrive in 2H 2014. |
