DigiTimes reports that semiconductor company Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) will commence mass production of Apple's next-gen SoC for mobiles and tablets in Q3 this year. The report also said that the chip will be produced using a smaller 20nm manufacturing process, which could either lead to a significantly smaller chipset from Apple which consumes lesser power, or a seriously beefed up chipset that maintains the size and power consumption while raising the performance bar.
Also, according to industry sources, TSMC has been contracted to produce second-generation fingerprint scanners for Apple, which will be fabricated in its 12-inch fab using a 65nm process.
