China Mobile and China Telecom, two of three 4G licensees in China, aim to sell 100 million and 36 million TD-LTE terminal devices, respectively, in the China market in 2014, according to industry sources.
In addition, China Mobile aims to sell 90-120 million TD-SCDMA devices, while China Telecom aims to sell 64 million CDMA 2000 terminal devices in 2014, the sources indicated.
China Mobile, with total subsidies of CNY27 billion (US$4.4 billion), sold 155 million terminal devices in the China market in 2013, the sources said.
China Telecom is in the process of procuring 300,000 TD-LTE MiFi routers, Dongles, and home-use CPE (customer premises equipment) devices, with China-based Huawei Technologies, ZTE and TCL Communication Technology being major open-bid competitors, the sources noted. In addition, China Telecom plans to launch entry-level TD-LTE smartphones priced at CNY1,000 in the first half of 2014 as well as mid-range and high-end models in the second half, the sources indicated.
