Acer will have China-based OEMs undertake production of its tablets in 2014 to cut costs, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers.
In response, Acer greater China president Scott Lin would not confirm the reports, but said that there is a mature tablet supply chain in Shenzhen, southern China due to the rapid growth white-box vendors, and vendors will lose competitiveness if they do not rely on China-based OEMs for assembly.
Acer shipped 5-6 million tablets in 2013, with Taiwan-based Compal Electronics and Wistron being major ODMs.
