Qualcomm announced today that it has scrapped plans of rolling out the Snapdragon 802 SoC, a chipset designed specifically to fit in our living rooms, powering gadgets to enable 4K content. The quad-core SoC, based on the existing Snapdragon 800 chipset, is no more. Here's what Qualcomm has to say:
"the overall demand for processors uniquely designed for smart TVs has proven to be smaller than anticipated." - Qualcomm
I'm sorry, Qualcomm, but I disagree. Smart TV market is booming, and could become as big as the Smartphone market (okay, maybe not AS BIG, but yeah, you get the point!) at some point in the future. |
