Dell is reducing PC R&D resources at its development center in Austin, Texas and will shift the resources to its Taiwan development center, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers.
  Global PC demand is shrinking and vendors have to minimize production costs to cope with the continual decreases in PC pricing. Taiwan has advantages in PC hardware development in terms of technological capability and cost, the sources pointed out.
  Dell's Taiwan development team has been recruiting staff, with most of job positions focusing on Chromebook and tablets, the sources indicated.
  According to Digitimes Research, Dell shipped 20.88 million notebooks in 2013, growing 5.9% on year, and is expected to ship 21.3 million units in 2014. Dell has released 2014 ODM orders for business-use notebooks to Compal Electronics and consumer units to Wistron.
