With Samsung having officially introduced their first hexa-core ARM-based chipset, MediaTek wants to be the second one to the stable. A leaked roadmap revealed that the fabless semiconductor company is working on the MT6591, which packs a 6-core configuration with its CPU cores clocked at 1.5 GHz. There's no mention of the use of ARM's big.LITTLE configuration, which could mean that we are looking at the first "true" hexa-core chip (Samsung's Exynos 5260 consists of separate dual-core and a quad-core clusters).
If we are reading the timeline right, it won't be long before MediaTek goes official with the MT6591. |
