Quanta Computer has produced servers for cloud computing data centers for direct-account supply for three years and expects total server shipments in 2014 to increase on year by 20% in volume and 40% in value, according to the company.
Quanta has established a wholly-owned subsidiary, Quanta Cloud Technology (QCT), specifically for the direct-account server segment, according to Mike Yang who is QCT president and general manager for the Cloud Computing Business Unit under Quanta Computer. Since the beginning of 2014, Quanta Computer has received 10 times more inquiries about servers than a year ago, Yang said.
Quanta Computer has extended operation to developing customized solutions for small- to medium-size enterprises to set up private cloud computing platforms, Yang pointed out.
To promote direct-account sales, Quanta has set up marketing bases in Fremont and Nashville, in the US, Beijing and Shanghai, in China, as well as in Japan, Singapore and Germany and plans to add another in Europe, Yang indicated. Quanta has cooperated with local companies to offer after-sale maintenance services. Quanta's direct-account clients include Google, Facebook, Amazon, Microsoft, NTT, KDDI, Korea Telecom and Singapore Telecom.
Quanta saw the proportion direct-account servers rise from 34% in 2011 to 64% in 2012 and further to 85% in 2013 and expects the proportion to increase to 92% in 2014, Yang said. For server ODM production, NEC is the major client, Yang indicated. |
