Taiwan-based server ODMs have been headhunting talent from first-tier server brand vendors such as Hewlett-Packard (HP) and Dell recently as their orders from large Internet players have been growing, according to sources from the upstream supply chain.
The sources pointed out that brand vendors' recent business re-organizations have driven away talent and Taiwan ODMs are aggressively trying to recruit them to strengthen their competitiveness.
Lenovo's acquisition of IBM's x86 server hardware and after-sales maintenance service businesses has caused many of the business' employees to look for new opportunities.
Currently, Quanta Computer has about 800 employees in its cloud computing department and is still expanding, while Wiwynn, a server manufacturing subsidy of Wistron, has a team of 250 technicians, and is set to expand to 360-500 in 2014 depending on its performance.
Among server ODMs, Quanta currently has the most complete team with experienced staff and products for the server, storage and switch markets. Other ODMs have also been strengthening their storage and switch R&D talent.
