According to recent rumours, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has started the production of Apple's next-generation A8 chip which should make its way to iPhone 6 later this year. The new 20 nm A8 chip will probably arrive in the third quarter.
The report claims the new A8 chip features a quad-core 64-bit processor along with a quad-core graphics, but except for the performance increase it reportedly features lower power consumption which is a key thing these days.
This news is also another sign that Apple is trying to end its relationship with Samsung. While some say it is due to eternal rivalry, others suggest that Samsung is struggling with the 20 nm manufacturing process and can't keep up with the Apple's demands. Either way, time will tell. |
