Samsung Electronics and Hewlett-Packard (HP) will follow LG Electronics to launch Chrome OS all-in-one PCs later in 2014, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers.
Samsung recently launched an 11.6-inch and 13.3-inch Chromebook and will launch three Chrome OS-based devices including AIO PCs, the sources indicated.
Increasing global adoption of Chrome OS is expected to worry Microsoft, the sources said. In the US education market in particular, the market share for Microsoft Windows in the K12 sector has dropped from about 50% to below 30%, while that for Chrome OS has risen from below 5% to nearly 20%, the sources indicated, mainly because Chrome OS is cheaper and ships faster.
In addition to educational applications, Chrome OS in the business segment is on the rise, the sources said.
