The LCD TV market in China is expected to drop from 48 million units in 2013 to about 45 million units in 2014, according to market observers.
After seeing 13% on-year growth in 2013 driven largely by demand during periods such as the May 1 holiday, LCD TV shipments in China are expected to drop by about three million units in 2014 largely due to the drop in LCD TV purchase subsidies issued by the China government.
The subsidies ended in mid-2013 and largely contributed to LCD TV growth in China throughout 2012 into 2013, the observers noted. Growth in the nation is expected to slow down now as a result. Panel makers and LED makers in Taiwan have been responsible for many component orders to China-based TV vendors and are expected to take a hit in 2014 as a result.
Rumors have spread in the market recently stating the China government may issue another wave of subsidies but nothing has been confirmed yet.
