MediaTek is expected to see its revenues reach over NT$17 billion (US$555.74 million) in March compared to NT$15.72 billion posted in February thanks to strong demand for its MT6582 quad-core chips from handset makers in China, according to industry sources.
MediaTek has continued to land pull-in orders for its MT6582 after the Lunar New Year holidays, triggering tight supply in the handset supply chain in China, the sources noted.
To cope with rising demand, MediaTek has placed short lead-time orders for wafer starts at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), the sources added.
Having recorded revenues of NT$28.58 billion during the January-February period, MediaTek is likely to post revenues of over NT$45.5 billion in the first quarter of 2014, higher than its guidance of NT$41.4-44.6 billion, the sources estimated. |
