Microsoft will set up four additional Azure data centers in 2014 and is expected to expand its procurement orders to server ODMs such as Quanta Computer and Wiwynn, according to Taiwan-based server supply chain makers.
Microsoft currently has 15 data centers worldwide.
Currently, most of Microsoft's servers are supplied by brand vendors such as Hewlett-Packard (HP) and Dell, but it is considering increasing the supply from ODMs due to their low costs and faster product development.
Server brand vendors usually take 18-24 months before delivering new products to clients, but through ODMs, the time can be shortened to only 12 months.
