Far EasTone Telecommunications (FET), one of the six 4G mobile communication licensees in Taiwan, has announced the launch of Smart 405, an own-brand 700MHz-supporting LTE smartphone model, in the Taiwan market in preparation for starting 4G commercial operation in third-quarter 2014.

　　Smart 405 features Qualcomm Snapdragon 1.2GHz quad-core processor, Android 4.3, a 4.5-inch qHD ISP touch screen, an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front camera. Alcatel Mobile Phones undertakes ODM production of Smart 405 and will ship 1,000 units initially.

　　Smart 405 is available for contract-free sale at NT$6,990 (US$231) and at NT$2,990 bundled with a 30-month contract at monthly rate of NT$299, FET indicated.

　　In addition to Smart 405, FET will launch a 5-inch LTE smartphone to be produced by Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) in May, the company noted.
