Taiwan touch panel makers are losing orders for touch panels used in notebooks to makers in China due to price competition, according to industry sources.
Asustek Computer, Acer, Lenovo and Hewlett-Packard (HP) are continuing to shift notebook touch panel orders to makers in China such as O-Film, which is affecting Taiwan makers' shipments, including Wintek and TPK.
Taiwan makers cannot afford to match China competitors' prices, and are watching their profits drop in the segment, causing some makers to veer away from the segment or fade out.
Meanwhile, the notebook market is on the decline and shipments are expected to decrease another 7.1% in the second quarter of 2014, said Digitimes Research.
