Some notebook vendors' shipments are being affected due to lack of panel access as panel makers shift their production capacity to mobile and TV panels.
Lenovo, Dell, Acer, Hewlett-Packard (HP) and Asustek Computer are among the vendors who are putting in increased orders for notebook panels and may see shipments affected due to lack of panel supply.
Panel makers have switched production capacity to TV panels as well as small- to medium-size panels due to declines in the notebook market, as well as a desire to increase their overall profit margin.
Notebook vendors meanwhile are trying to stimulate growth in the notebook market through new products, including 2-in-1 units, and may see challenges securing panel supply as a result.
The imbalance is expected to persist throughout the second quarter of 2014, particularly when panel makers expect the notebook market to be at its slowest, and demand for TV panels in China are expected to remain steady. |
