MediaTek is expected to see its revenues slip 15% sequentially to NT$15-16 billion (US$497.41-530.57 million) in May as clients in China have reduced their orders for the month after the May 1 holidays, according to industry sources.
MediaTek's revenues hit an all time high of NT$19.1 billion in April thanks to strong orders from the supply chain in China as vendors there rushed to build up inventories for the holiday-buying spree, indicated the sources.
However, MediaTek said that its target for generating revenues of NT$51.5-55.2 billion in second-quarter 2014 remains unchanged despite seasonal factors. The company also looks to ship 80-90 million smartphone solutions in the second quarter, up from 75 million shipped in the previous quarter.
MediaTek's shipments of 8-core processors are expected to double sequentially in the second quarter, accounting for 10-15% of total handset solution shipments in the quarter, the sources estimated.
MediaTek will also continue to account for a majority of 3G solution market in China in 2014 as China-based handset vendors gear up their efforts to push sales of 3G models to overseas markets, commented the sources.
