Xiaomi will release new 55-inch Ultra HD TVs in the second half of 2014, with AU Optronics (AUO) expected to supply most panels, according to industry sources.
Xiaomi's recently released 49-inch Ultra HD TV has panel supply from China- and Korea-based makers, the sources said, adding the unit is equipped with BLUs from Radiant Optoelectronics and is assembled by Wistron.
Market response for Xiaomi's 49-inch low-priced Ultra HD TV has been positive so far and the company aims to release new low-priced Ultra HD TVs later in the year that will be equipped with panel technology from AUO.
That means AUO would supply Xiaomi Ultra HD TV panels in addition to Samsung Electronics, Sony and Vizio, the sources noted.
However, Korea makers are expanding their production capacity for Ultra HD TV panels as is China Star Optoelectronics Technology (CSOT), making it hard to determine how many orders AUO will receive, the sources added.
China is expected to be the largest Ultra HD TV market in 2014. |
