Asustek Computer aims to ship 5-10 million ZenFone smartphones in 2014 but smartphone supply chains believe such high numbers may be unrealistic due to increased competition in the market, according to industry sources.
The sources said orders in the second quarter of 2014 are expected to be around 100,000 and are estimated to climb in the third quarter to one million units.
Increased competition in the market is Asustek's biggest challenge, market observers said.
While shipments for the Asustek's new smartphone are expected to increase in the third quarter the company will be up against new handsets released from international- and China-based vendors, with a high possibility that the new devices' specifications and pricing may have a more competitive edge in the market, the observers added. |
