Notebook brand vendors will start their request for quotation (RFQ) processes for notebook orders for 2015 in June and ODMs are already preparing for the event, according to sources from the upstream supply chain.
Acer's new management team and Lenovo's rising in-house production rates are both expected to affect ODMs' orders for 2015.
With Acer having reshufled its management team, ODMs has no idea what plans the vendor has for 2015. The ODMs will need to re-establish their relationships with the new management team under Acer's new CEO Jason Chen, the sources said.
Wistron, which lost a large chunk of Acer's orders in 2013, may receive more orders from the vendor in 2015, the sources said.
Compal Electronics, which had a close relationship with Acer's previous management team, may see order adjustments by the vendor. Compal's joint-venture partnership with Lenovo is likely to play a role in affecting its cooperation with Acer.
Lenovo's move to increase in-house production gradually is expected to mainly affect Wistron's notebook orders for 2015. Sony's departure from the notebook industry is also expected to push Quanta Computer to look for orders from somewhere else for 2015.
