Taiwan-based USB controller design houses are recruiting talent from the memory chip sector as they are gearing up efforts to compete for orders in the growing USB 3.0 controller chip market, according to industry sources.
VIA Labs, a subsidiary of VIA Technologies, has recently appointed Gibson Chen, former vice president at A-Data Technology, as its vice president for sales, said the sources, noting that Chen is a veteran in the NAND flash industry.
Additionally, Skymedi has also recently hired Chou Te-chih (translated from Chinese), a former executive from Samsung Taiwan, to serve as its new vice president for sales. Samsung Electronics, Intel and Kingston Technology are all corporate shareholders of Skymedi.
In addition to VIA Labs and Skymedi, other Taiwan-based controller chip vendors, including Alcor Micro, Genesys Logic, Etron Technology, Phison Electronics, ASMedia Technology, JMicron Technology, Silicon Motion Technology, and Innostor Technology, have also ventured into the USB 3.0 controller chip sector, the sources revealed.
