MediaTek's shipments of 4G smartphone solutions and tablet solutions in 2014 are expected to surpass its targets of 40 million and 15 million units, respectively, due to improved order visibility, according to industry sources.
Judging from the number of tape-outs it has obtained and the visibility of its orders in the second quarter, MediaTek is now able to ship out 90% of 4G and tablet solutions projected for 2014, the sources revealed.
However, due to the tight production schedules at Taiwan-based foundry houses, MediaTek is reluctant to raise its shipment targets for 4G solutions, the sources noted.
Having already rolled out quad- and 8-core 4G chips, MediaTek's 4G solution shipments will gain a boost in the second half of 2014 when it begins to release 64-bit 4G chips, the sources added. |
