As Samsung Electronics, Sony Mobile Communications, Apple, LG Electronics and other international vendors are unlikely to release ODM/OEM orders for smart wearable devices, Taiwan-based IT ODMs have been seeking orders for such products from sports equipment suppliers, fashion houses and healthcare/medical service providers such as Adidas, Casio, Seiko Epson and Omron, according to industry sources in Taiwan.
These Taiwan-based IT ODMs include Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry), FIH Mobile, Compal Electronics, Quanta Computer, Inventec, Mitac International, Cheng Uei Precision Industry (Foxlink) and Netronix, the sources noted.
International IT vendors either develop and produce smart wearable deices themselves or develop products and then outsource production to EMS providers, the sources noted.
Sports equipment suppliers, fashion houses and healthcare/medical service providers are more interested in smart bracelets than in smart watches mainly because international IT vendors have launched smart watches, the sources indicated. ODM quotes for smart bracelets equipped with functions of physiological monitoring and sports management stand at US$35-65 for retail prices, the sources said.
