Notebook demand in emerging markets has started recovering recently as international funds return to emerging markets after seeing a weak return on investment in the US and Europe, according to sources from the upstream supply chain.
Notebook orders from emerging markets have been mostly disappointing in first-half 2014 amid weak demand. Many brand vendors have been reluctant to place orders for components as they seek to avoid losses from fluctuating exchange rates, the sources said.
Although some notebook ODMs have recently sent out meesages that they expect strong shipment growths in the second half, the sources remain skeptical, pointing out that the ODMs have failed to see significant growths in the second half in the past few years.
