Google didn't announce a new Nexus last night, neither did the company shed any light regarding the heavily rumored Android Silver program. Instead, we get Android One, a new program for Smartphones wherein Google will themselves push the latest software updates, just like they do with Google Play Edition handsets.
The first three named partners in the new Android One program are India's most popular native Smartphone brands - Micromax, Karbonn and Spice. Sundar Pichai announced that the Micromax Android One Smartphone - featuring a 4.5-inch display, Dual-SIM support, microSD card, FM Radio - will cost less than $100. That would make the device even cheaper than the Motorola Moto E, which is currently considered to be the best budget Android Smartphone. |
