Commenting on the company's plans to join the tablet industry, CEO of China-based Xiaomi Lei Jun has said that the lack of a healthy ecosystem was the main problem holding Xiaomi back, and now Xiaomi is stepping up to try to establish an Android tablet ecosystem that is able to compete against Apple's iPad.
Xiaomi started selling tablets in China on July 1. Lei pointed out that an Android tablet is not difficult to produce in terms of hardware; however, the main obstacle that the industry is facing is the lacking of good quality and a sufficient number of apps and games.
Although vendors have released all different kinds of tablets in the market, none of them are willing to nurture an ecosystem for the Android tablet market and therefore Xiaomi has decided to release own-brand tablets, looking to establish a new ecosystem for the industry, Lei added. |
