Dell has reportedly already finished the request for quotation (RFQ) process for its consumer notebook orders for 2015 with Compal Electronics and Wistron each landing half of the volume, according to sources from the upstream supply chain.

Notebook vendors normally start their RFQ processes for next year in June, but the processes were slightly delayed in 2014 due to Intel postponing its processor updates.

Dell's enterprise notebook orders as well as Hewlett-Packard (HP) and Acer's orders are still in processing and are expected to complete in the near future.

For the Dell's enterprise notebook orders, its major partner Compal is internally looking to maintain its existing share at 70% for 2015. Market watchers also believe Compal will have a good chance of landing the majority of orders, judging from its long partnership.

Since notebook brand vendors mostly prefer to continue outsourcing orders to their existing partners, notebook orders for 2015 are unlikely to see any major changes, the market watchers noted.

In 2014, HP mainly outsourced its orders to Quanta Computer and Inventec; Dell: Compal and Wistron; Lenovo: Compal and Wistron; Apple: Quanta; Acer: Compal and Quanta; Asustek Computer: Pegatron Technology, Quanta and Compal.

However, orders from Acer may be shifted around because the company just had a new CEO and ODMs are re-establishing their relationships with the vendor.

Compal had strong notebook shipments in the first half and expects its notebook shipments for 2014 to have a chance of surpassing its original target of 41 million units.
