As Hewlett-Packard (HP) and Dell have seen good sales in the North America notebook market in July, Taiwan ODMs Quanta Computer and Inventec for HP and Compal Electronics and Wistron for Dell are expected to see increased shipments in the second half of 2014, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers.
Dell's shipments in July increased 10% on month.
With strong demand in the second half, some supply chain players expect the notebook shipment ratio for the first and second halves of 2014 to reach 4:6.
July and August mark the traditional slow season in Europe because of summer vacations, and demand is unlikely to pick up until close to September; therefore, the sources expect notebook shipments in Europe in the third quarter to stay flat or drop slightly on quarter. The sources also expect shipments in the fourth quarter to be the strongest in 2014.
As for Latin America, notebook demand in Brazil has turned weak recently because the strong demand for TVs during World Cup diverted some notebook demand. Samsung Electronics also sees its ranking in the country's notebook market drop after turning to focus on profits. |
