IDC's market share report for the second quarter has been released and it once again shows Android is king. Android's shipment volume growth was 33.3 percent during the quarter resulting in 255.3 million Android phones being shipped out. iOS used to control a larger part of the smartphone market with its groundbreaking iPhone, but things are changing with Android commanding an 84.7 percent market share.
Android's growth has been so substantial that even though Apple was able to boost its iPhone shipments by 12 percent year-over-year, its market share has continued to fall and is now sitting at 11.7 percent. This means Android growth was just too substantial for Apple to actually increase its market share, despite having increased shipments.
