Sony today announced an upgraded version of its mid-range Android Smartphone. The new Xperia M2 Aqua isn't entirely a new device, but rather it is the Xperia M2 fitted with IP68 certification. The latter implies that the device is completely dust-proof, and also that it can survive underwater beyond 1m indefinitely.
Not that we would ask you to experiment with it; if you are going to buy a new phone, it would be wiser to use it and try it out in the rains rather than leave it at the bottom of your swimming pool for a month.
Apart from the IP68 certification, the Xperia M2 Aqua sports the same 4.8-inch qHD (960 x 540) display. It is powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 chipset, which is complemented by 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of expandable storage, an 8 MP rear Exmor RS sensor, VGA front camera, a 2,330 mAh battery and Android 4.4 KitKat out-of-the-box.
The Sony Xperia M2 Aqua will come in Black, White and Purple colors. It is said to arrive in markets across the globe starting Autumn 2014, for a price that is slightly higher than the Xperia M2 (roughy $250). |
