TV vendors in China are changing their product mix for the second half of 2014 in light of growing demand for high-end units, according to industry sources.

The vendors estimate the proportion of 50-inch and above size units sold in the second half of the year in China will reach 20%, while smart TVs will reach 50%. Additionally, the penetration rate of Ultra HD TVs is expected to reach 10%.

Vendors therefore are creating more high-end products, including more curved Ultra HD units, in addition to larger sizes such as 65-, 75- and 85-inch, with 42-inch being on the smaller end. High color gamut and 3D features will be offered in more units as well.

Most industry experts expect China to be the largest Ultra HD TV market during 2014, but it will still be driven by entry-level units.
