Asustek Computer is set to release its new 7-inch MeMO Pad 7 ME70CX tablet in early September in Taiwan priced at NT$2,990 (US$100) to attract demand, according to the company.

Sources from the upstream supply chain pointed out that the MeMO Pad tablets' aggressive pricing has put strong pressure on Asustek's competitors, especially white-box vendors, which may start to be phased out of the market in the first half of 2015.

With its 7-, 8- and 10-inch MeMO Pads, Asustek shipped a total of 12 million tablets in 2013 and was the second-largest non-Apple tablet vendor. However, because of low prices, the product line has contributed limited profits.

In the first half of 2014, Asustek shipped 6.1 million tablets and made almost no profits from the business line. For 2014, Asustek's tablet shipments are estimated to drop to 10.7 million units.

Some channel retailers expect Asustek's new 7-inch tablet to impact demand for tablets from players such as Acer, Lenovo, LG, Micro-Star International (MSI) and Huawei.

The tablet will also become available in Southeast Asia and China in the near future. The MeMO Pad 7 ME70CX features Intel's Atom Z2520 processor, dual cameras, 8GB of storage and has a battery longevity of eight hours.

Asustek is also expected to become the largest supporter of Intel's processors in the mobile device market. Asustek is expected to ship eight million ZenFone smartphones and over five million MeMO Pad tablets in 2014, all adopting Intel processors.
