Quanta Computer has landed orders for Acer's 15-inch notebooks for 2015, which will account for 45-50% of Acer's overall orders. Quanta will become Acer's largest ODM partner and also the largest notebook maker in 2015, according to sources from the upstream supply chain.

Quanta and Acer declined to comment about their orders.

Acer used to outsourced its 15-inch notebooks to Compal Electronics, and Compal will be the largest notebook ODM partner of Acer in 2014, the sources noted.

Although Compal has lost the 15-inch orders, the company has still landed orders for Acer's 14-inch models, while orders for 17-inch models have been given to Wistron. Acer's 14-inch models will account for 25-30% of its overall orders in 2015 and the 17-inch models 20-25%, the sources said.

The sources pointed out that supply stability is the main consideration Acer has for switching its ODM partners, since the company has suffered from shortages of conventional notebooks and Chromebooks recently.

With Acer having changed both its chairman and president, ODMs need to re-establish their relationships with Acer which may have affected Acer's outsourcing for 2015.
