Despite seeing strong second-quarter performance, demand for notebook components in the second half of 2014 has so far fallen short of expectations, according to sources from supply chain makers.
The sources pointed out that strong demand for notebooks in the second quarter was mainly due to a replacement trend triggered by Microsoft ending support for Windows XP.
However, with overall consumer demand remaining weak, component orders for the second half have not been as strong as originally expected.
Some component makers have been seeking for clients from other industries to try to lower their notebook-related revenue contributions. Players such as Aces Electronics, Sinbon Electronics, UDE and Alltop Technology have been aggressively looking for new businesses to enter. |
