Notebook ODMs Quanta Computer, Compal Electronics, Wistron and Inventec have announced mixed performances in their August revenues.

Quanta announced revenues of NT$81.25 billion (US$2.71 billion) for August, up 4.3% on month and 11.8% on year, while combined revenues from January-August reached NT$589.5 billion, up 10.7% on year.

Quanta shipped 4.7 million notebooks in August, growing 11.9% from July. The company expects its shipments in September to drop slightly on month, but overall shipments in the third quarter will still grow 10% sequentially.

Quanta's major clients Apple and Hewlett-Packard (HP) have recently started launching new products for back-to-school demand and year-end holidays, helping to boost Quanta's shipments in the third quarter, according to some market watchers.

Quanta vice chairman CC Leung also recently said that the company's notebook shipment ratio for the first and second halves of 2014 is expected to reach 47:53, while its non-notebook product lines such as tablets, servers and all-in-one PCs, are also expected to start seeing shipment growth after August.

Compal's August revenues reached NT$72.39 billion, up 4.01% on month and 38.94% on year. The company's combined revenues for the first eight months of 2014 were NT$514.44 billion, up 17.63% on year.

Compal shipped 3.9 million notebooks in August, up from 3.6 million units in July.

Wistron had revenues of NT$48.01 billion for August, up 3.59% on month, but down 9.11% on year. The company's combined revenues from January-August were NT$356.01 billion, down 15.72% on year. Wistron shipped 1.8 million notebooks in August, up from 1.7 million units in July.

Wistron shipped 1.3 million handheld devices in August, up from 1.2 million units in July and 500,000 LCD TVs, up from 450,000 units.

Inventec achieved revenues of NT$31.31 billion for August, down 5.88% on month and 17.33% on year. Combined revenues for the first eight months of 2014 were NT$286.16 billion, up 2.6% on year.

Inventec shipped 1.4 million notebooks in August, down slightly from 1.5 million units in July. The shipment declined as delivery for some orders had been rescheduled to September.
