Sharp has increased its proportion of small- to medium-size panel production at one of its LCD fabs to 50% in order to meet increased demand from China vendors, according to a report from Taiwan's Economic Daily News (EDN).

As of June 2014, about 35% of the panels produced at the Kameyama Plant No. 2 in Japan were for small- to medium-size panels. That number has since increased to 50% and is expected to further climb to above 80% in 2017, the paper said.

Approximately 65% of Sharp's revenues for its LCD business came from small- to medium-size applications during April-June 2014, driven by handset panel demand from China vendors, the report said, adding that orders from the vendors are expected to increase five-fold on year from April-September 2014.

The Kameyama fab started producing IGZO panels in March 2012 mainly for panels sized 5.5-inch.
