Google wants the world to be powered using Android. A very step in achieving that goal is to ensure that billions of people who still don't own a Smartphone buy a Google Android device. To nab the next billion customers, Google launched its attractive Android One program, which is currently limited to 3 handsets in India from Micromax, Spice and Karbonn.

The Android One program basically comprises of local OEMs offering handsets that have preset hardware configurations (from Google). In fact, the Mountain View company will control the software experience as well. Android One is stock Android, and updates will come directly from Google.

If you weren't impressed with the first wave of handsets, you will have to wait until the end of 2014 to see the next batch of Android One handsets. This time, OEMs such as Lenovo, HTC and many others might join in and launch their own Android One offerings, which will definitely be very interesting to see.
