The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus aren't very expensive devices to manufacture, and that means profit margins for the smartphones are large. An IHS teardown has been completed and it shows the iPhone 6 costs $200 to make and the iPhone 6 Plus costs $216. Those figures are for the base 16 GB models.
Even if those numbers are slightly off from the actual costs, Apple is looking at a 65 percent profit margin or higher, and that is large for the smartphone industry.
When it compared the manufacturing costs for the iPhone 6 to the iPhone 5S, IHS's researchers found the new phone only costs $5 more.
IHS also noted the displays for the phones were more expensive than any other part. The displays cost between $45 and $53. |
