Sales of PCs saw a boost prior to the return of the school season, and this year, Macs and Chromebooks benefited the most from the sales increase. NPD Group has released its market data showing a 3 percent increase in sales during the back to school season.
Of the extra computers sold during the period, 26.8 percent were Macs, 4.5 percent were Chromebooks, and 68.4 percent were Windows machines. Chromebooks saw a 32 percent year-over-year increase and Macs were up 12 percent, compared to a boost of just 2 percent for Windows machines.
For NPD's calculations, the back to school season begins in the beginning of July and ends on Labor Day. There are many other factors that could contribute to sales during that period of time, but students heading back to school likely plays an important role during the season. |
