The Lenovo Group has announced that it will create a new company to focus on sales of smart devices and services through Internet. The new company will operate under a separate name and brand starting April 1, 2015.
This move aims to help Lenovo tap the fast growing consumer mobile device market in China, with a focus not only on devices, but also on software and application development, and close customer engagement, Lenovo said.
Other China-based vendors, including Xiaomi Technology, Huawei, Coolpad and ZTE, which have already established secondary brands to promote their smartphones through Internet.
Lenovo and Motorola combined ship over 20 million mobile phones a month currently, which is comparable to shipments of Huawei, sources from component makers said, adding that Lenovo, Huawei and Xiaomi are likely to compete to take the third-position in the global smartphone vendor rankings in 2015. |
