The Nokia brand is being removed from Lumia devices by Microsoft now that the company owns the devices and services part of Nokia. No longer will a device be called the "Nokia Lumia". Instead, Microsoft is replacing that branding with Microsoft Lumia for all of the devices, primarily smartphones.
A report from The Verge claims Microsoft is switching up the brand names in France first, and then other markets will begin to see Microsoft Lumia on the devices.
Products, social media, and online presences will all be impacted by the brand name change. Microsoft really did not have a choice in the matter since the Nokia brand remains a separate company, so there would have simply been too much confusion if the device names did not change. |
