Strong demand for Apple's iPhone 6 has boosted Pegatron Technology's orders for 2014 and the maker is expected to ship close to 25 million units before the end of 2014, according to sources from the upstream supply chain. Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) will also deliver about 25 million units during the period, bringing iPhone 6 overall shipments to 50 million units in 2014. These estimates do not include shipments of the iPhone 6 Plus.

Compared to the US and Europe's high demand for the iPhone 6, consumers in Asia Pacific countries such as China, are more fond of the iPhone 6 Plus and the supply ratio of the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus in the region is about 55:45 currently, the sources noted.

To allow Pegatron to focus mainly on iPhone 6 production, Apple has shifted iPhone 5c orders to Wistron. Orders for the iPhone 6 are expected to boost Pegatron's consolidated revenues to NT$290 billion (US$9.54 billion) in the fourth quarter, a new historical record, the sources said.

In addition to the iPhone 6, Pegatron is also responsible for manufacturing the iPad mini 3, while iPad mini 2 orders are shared by Pegatron and Compal Electronics.

Despite the fact that the iPad mini 3 has just been released, the iPad mini 2, which received a price cut, is enjoying stronger demand than its newer counterpart. The sources expect the iPad mini 2 to achieve strong sales in the fourth quarter.
