A leading Russian publication reports that on New Year's Day, Russia will ban the Apple iPhone. The ban will also cover the Apple iPad. More specifically, any device that is tied to iCloud, Apple's cloud storage service, will be banned from sale in Russia. This is because by storing the iCloud data in servers located in the US, Apple is breaking a Russian law which permits cloud storage to be locally stored within the borders of Russia, or not at all.
For now, Apple hasn't commented on this interesting issue. Let's see how this story develops. |
