Notebook ODMs Quanta Computer, Compal Electronics, Wistron and Inventec have unveiled their shipment performance for October with Quanta having shipped 3.9 million notebooks in the month, down from 4.8 million units in September.

However, Quanta's consolidated revenues in October only dropped 3.72% on month, because many of Quanta's notebook shipments in the month were high-end models. Quanta explained that the third quarter was its shipment peak in 2014 and its shipments in the fourth quarter are expected to drop a double-digit percentage sequentially.

Compal shipped 3.5-3.6 million notebooks in October, down from 4.4 million units in September. Compal's revenues in the month also suffered a smaller on-month decline (4.37%) than its notebook shipments because the maker enjoyed a strong performance in consumer electronics product shipments.

With the merger with Compal Communication, Compal's revenues from smartphone and tablet products have increased and helped the company's revenues become more stable.

Wistron shipped 1.9 million notebooks in October, down from 2.3 million units in September; 1.8 million smart handheld devices, up from 1.7 million units; 500,000 LCD TVs, down from 600,000 units; 800,000 LCD monitors, up from 700,000 units and 1.2 million desktops, down from 1.3 million units.

Inventec pointed out that its third-quarter notebook shipments have declined, but its other product lines have mostly enjoyed growth. The company is conservative about its notebook shipments in 2015, but believes its other product lines such as handheld devices will achieve a double-digit percentage shipment growth in the year.
